Famous Cartoons of the 90s

Cartoons are something that many adults and children alike love to watch, and in the 90s there were quite a few for people to choose from. Those that look back at the decade are going to find that though the cartoons do not have the pizazz that current cartoons have, they are still something that kids were eager to watch. The ‘Rugrats’ were fairly popular and stared in the beginning of the decade and made it until 2004 in which Nickelodeon finally quite carrying the cartoon. Through the adventures of following the adorable babies and toddlers of this cartoon we saw just how funny kids are. Kids loved the fact that these rugrats were always one some kind of adventure and saving each other in the process.

The cartoon ‘Doug’ was one of the shows that kids loved. Through adventures, Doug and his dog were seen taking on several issues. The show was a hit and spawned a movie after Disney purchased the company. Doug was just an average kid dealing with average problems and a huge imagination, though it was this that other kids could relate to. When the show stopped and was purchased by Disney, the audience was not as found of the show after all the changes that it went through.

‘Ren and Stimpy’ started out as a child cartoon, though later the cartoon was geared towards more adult concepts. It was a hit with older kids during the younger years of the show, however, after adult themes were added most parents did not allow their child to see these. Even as an adult cartoon it was something that adults found funny at times, though after several episodes that were speaking of relationships between the two main characters in terms of being lovers, it was cancelled.

‘The Animaniacs’ were something that many people were interested in and it was geared towards children though adults loved this just as much. The cartoons never really had a direction it was just giggles and laughs the entire way, yet it was mindless entertainment, which could be one reason why the show was so popular with adults. There were several spin offs that came from the show that were just as successful.

The cartoons of the 90s were not like the cartoons today. Most of these shows were just entertainment instead of dealing with choices and decisions to be made that would affect other people. With that being said, there were also quite a few of the cartoons that would be too violent in today’s standards, and many of these were cancelled due to the violent content that they had. However, no matter what, these are classic cartoons that people will always remember as their favorite show to watch with their kids. Today, watching these episodes can be found on some channels late at night or online. The reason that they are considered classics today is because they will always be loved by those that watched them and many people believe that they were from a simpler time.

The Classic TV Shows of the 90s

There were tons of shows that are considered to be some classic episodes that were first brought to television in the 90′s. All of these old TV shows are now rerunning on several channels on the television and they can be seen online in many places. There are many shows that people will remember with fondness, such as 3rd Rock from the Sun. No one can forget the witty characters in these episodes and their transition to normal life on Earth. It was a funny show that many people were sad to see go, though as most people termed there is a time and a place for everything.

‘ALF’ was perhaps one of the most watched programs that the entire family could enjoy, though most kids found this funnier than their parents. After all, it wasn’t every day that the family found an alien in their backyard, that they named Alf. Alf was constantly getting into mischief and his antics were something that everyone found hilarious. Looking back on it, the show may not be up to today’s time in terms of technology, yet there was nothing more real that someone in the Alf costume and the family.

The 90s would not be complete without including the classic TV shows such as ’90210′, the original ’90210′ to be exact. This was Spelling’s biggest hit on television and has since been remade into a newer sitcom. Everyone remembers the main characters and to this day they are still known as their character on 90210. Though the show was geared towards teens, there were plenty of adults who loved to tune in each week to find out if Brenda and Dillon would work out.

“Cheers” is another one of those shows that is timeless. Set in a bar, ‘Cheers’ had the drama, the laughs and the sad points to keep everyone tuning in each week. There has been many shows afterwards that tried to duplicate the ‘Cheers’ setting however, none have been as successful as ‘Cheers’ and will more than likely never come close to the lovable and diverse cast.

There were quite a few sitcoms that were popular and are still popular today on several channels. For example, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ was a hit and most people were sad to see it go when it finally had its last show. After all, it was a show that most people could relate to with nosey in-laws and the hassles of day to day living with three kids and basic marriage problems that were seen. No list would be complete without ‘Friends’ in which several actors got their big start, including Jennifer Aniston. The sitcom was interesting simply to watch the dynamics of the entire cast, while everyone early waited to see if Monica and Chandler would make it and if Rachel and Ross would make it work.

Other classics of the time are ‘Family Matters’, ‘Full House’, ‘Home Improvement’, ‘Married…With Children’, ‘Night Court’, ‘Roseanne’, ‘Seinfeld’, ‘The Wonder Years’, ‘Saved by the Bell’ and so many more. It was a time in which television ruled and since then most people have been eager to find something that would feel the void.

90s TV Shows – An Intro and overview into the children’s shows

90s TV Shows were some of the best TV shows America has ever seen. From the classic cartoons which aired on Nickelodeon (which are now being aired again as an honor to who great they are), to the classic sitcoms such as Seinfeld what wasn’t there to love? Will Smith’s excellent acting in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air along with an icon theme song which everyone and their dog can recite made every single episode enjoyable. Even some of the more disliked shows, such as Home Improvement were chocked full of some of the same jokes over and over, still kept every episode hilarious. And who can’t recite a quote or twenty from Steve Urkel, the revered character in Family Matters.

To start off this blog we’ll begin with a look into what many people consider to be the greatest part of the nineties, the emergence of a multimillion dollar children’s TV show industry. As stations battled for the large market of children, and parents who watched the shows with them, many amazing shows surfaced. What better way to start than with the giant which dominated them all, Nickelodeon?
One of the greatest icons for the 1990’s was Nickelodeon with many of their original animation shows which premiered in 1991. Every child from this era loved Rugrats, Doug, and even Ren & Stimpy. Following the debut came classics including CatDog, a story of an animal which had both a cat head and a dog head, Invader Zim, the story of an evil alien attempting to destroy the world, and The Angry Beavers, the story of two young bachelor beaver brothers. Cartoon giant SpongeBob SquarePants debuded in the late 90s as a legacy to some of these previous NickToons (a term fans liked to call the cartoons produced by Nickelodeon).

Nickelodeon’s live action shows were dominated by All That, a hilarious sketch-comedy with random sketches as well as a musical guest at the end. The entire format was akin to Saturday Night Live. Everyone loved watching Ed at Good Burger. Not quite as popular was Kenan & Kel, Action League Now!, and KaBlam! could never live up to the legacy of all that. Nickelodeon later attempted to create a spin-off of All That titled The Nick Cannon Show which, saddening to the fans of the original show, failed miserably.

Nickelodeon did have a few admirable rivals to its supremacy of children’s programming for 90s tv shows. Cartoon Network had Dexter’s Laboratory, a show of a childhood genius, Johnny Bravo, the story of a bold haired stud, and Cow and Chicken, the show of some very crazy barn animals. Fox Kids had the infamous Power Rangers. The live action show sparked the interest of thousands of young boys and even some older children.

Up next is going to be an overview of the amazing sitcoms of the decade.
